Description

The E-60 was designed as a medium tank in Germany's E Plan to standardize tanks by weight while also standardizing various components for each tank to increase productivity, which had proven to be extremely difficult to implement. Initially planned in October 1943, the E-60's design was based on the body of the E-10; it was not deployed until after 1945. Designed to completely eliminate surplus equipment, the E-60 had a very straight, flat appearance with almost no curves. As a result, the manufacturing process was significantly reduced and mass productivity was dramatically improved, but it was only produced in very small numbers due to the end of World War II -- numbers too small to have any affect on the war. It was intended to be a 40-ton class light/medium tank prioritizing mobility, but due to production reasons, its turret was adapted from the E-75/50, meaning its body size had to be increased; this led to its ultimate design as a 60-ton medium tank with 200mm of front armour. It had seven types of large wheels and eight medium-sized wheels, all double-layered, and the medium-size wheels were equipped with upper wheels to reduce drive loss.

This kit is based on original evidence that the E-10 light tank would be converted to a medium tank. A reduced number of parts means greater ease of assembly, while still maintaining realistic details such as welding marks and the E-60's typical angular appearance. The gun barrel can be moved up and down, and the turret can swivel a full 360 degrees; all wheels are separate parts, and the tracks are a realistic split adhesive type. Plenty of exterior equipment and waterslide decals are also included.
